Central Alberta Lacrosse - U19 Division

Central Alberta Lacrosse (CALL) will introduce a U19 division for the 2026 minor box lacrosse season. This division provides an essential bridge for athletes transitioning out of U17 who wish to continue playing but may not yet be ready or interested in the commitments of Junior lacrosse.
Purpose of the U19 Division
- Provide a structured, competitive option for athletes aged 17-
- Support athletes who are not yet ready — or not interested — in the increased time commitment, travel, and higher fees associated with Junior lacrosse.
- Help retain players who might otherwise discontinue playing the
- Increase opportunities to “keep sticks in hands” and maintain long-term
- Strengthen player pathways and support sustainability in Central Alberta
Eligibility Disclaimer
This U19 division is NOT intended for:
- Players looking to move to Junior for the 2026
- Players on any Junior Protected
- Players who appeared on a Junior roster in the previous
This program is specifically for athletes who are NOT going to play Junior in 2026 and for those who
did NOT play Junior last season.
Eligibility
- Players born in 2008 or 2009 (for the 2026 season).
- Players remain eligible to try out for Junior programs per ALA/RMLL rules, but those intending to play Junior are not eligible for U19.
- Teams may be independent or amalgamated depending on registration
Registration
- All registrations will be processed and controlled by CALL for the first
- Interest and outcomes will be reviewed in October 2026 to determine whether clubs may open their own U19 registrations for 2027.
- Registration opens January 15 and remains open until March 20 (or later if needed).
Practices
- Minimum One (1) practice per
- Practice locations determined based on geographic distribution of registered
- CALL will minimize travel by forming regional practice groups when
Season Format
- Minimum 8-game
- Game format (5v5 or 4v4) will be based on the number of registered players, goalies and team
- Crossover weekends with other LGBs will be explored where interest
- Playoff weekend will be scheduled if numbers allow for a meaningful
- Regular season planned from mid-April to late-
Team Formation
- Target of 4-6 teams depending on
- Teams may be structured regionally to reduce
- CALL will manage roster balancing to ensure competitive equity where
Officials & Coaching Requirements
- All games officiated by certified
- Coaches must meet Competitive Introduction
Officiating Incentive for U19 Players:
Any U19 player who has not previously officiated with the ALRA will receive:
- FREE ALRA official certification paid by
- A partial refund of U19 player fees if they officiate games during the 2026 season. Amount to be confirmed by January 15th
Benefits
- Keeps athletes engaged who might otherwise leave the sport after
- Provides a smoother transition toward Junior lacrosse for developing
- Increases participation opportunities and supports long-term league
- Encourages officiating development and supports the ALRA official
